Home Time! COVID-19 - March to June

Image
Hello Everyone! Long time, no speak! Things have been pretty crazy here from March until now but I wanted to do a final blog post wrapping up my time in Australia officially.  COVID-19 has affected everyone in different ways, and I hope you are all coping well with whatever it has meant for you. For me, it meant th at I came home early from Australia, and I've been in the UK since the end of March.  It's funny now to think that mid-February I was flying back from my visit home in the UK to get back out to Australia. COVID-19 was a thing then but I don't think any of us really knew what was going to happen. I remember on that flight being offered some anti-bac wipes by the woman sitting next to me and we sort of joked about coronavirus, wiped down our seats and then thought nothing else of it. Jump ahead a month and a half, and every boarder in the world is shutting down and me and everyone else I knew who was on a study abroad year was scrambling to get home be...

Melbourne! - February

Image
Hello Everyone! I'm back in Australia and I have started back at university. I arrived on the 15th January and it definitely took me a good few days to get over the jetlag. Going this way is way worse than when I went back to England - I didn't really have a problem at all then.  It took me a little while to settle back in but it was odd that this time around coming back to Brisbane felt like I was coming home, and all of the things I experienced when I first got here that made it clear I wasn't at home any more are now some of the things I love the most. I feel like the time here has gone so fast and before I know it I'll be back in the U.K for good. I have less than 4 months left now! I've been glad to start back at university, I was definitely getting bored of not studying anything new for so long. I'm doing far more maths this term so it will be interesting to see how I find that compared to having a psychology-heavy semester like last term. And...

The Great Barrier Reef! - January

Image
Hi Everyone! Sorry this blog post is late - I have been back in the U.K travelling around quite a bit so just haven't found the time. It also makes sense to me to write about England all in one go and then get back to Australia for the next blog post :).  So this month has been another month of two halves. The first half was spent up on Airlie Beach which is on the coast of Whitsundays and the Great Barrier Reef! Ollie and I went up for five days. We also spent more time around Brisbane and went to Stradbroke Island. Then on January 11th Ollie and I flew back to the U.K together where I have been spending time with my family in Exeter as well as doing a bit of a tour of the U.K travelling up to Lancaster, Glasgow and the Midlands seeing friends and family. The flight home was absolutely awful. We were delayed 11 hours in Brunei after our plane set off, had a fault and had to land again after two hours! All in all we ended up travelling for 42 hours from leaving my flat...

New Zealand North Island and Christmas! - December

Image
Hi Everyone! Happy New Year! I hope you all had a fun celebration and I hope that 2020 treats you all well :). Can you believe its the start of a new decade?! This month has been busy and feels like its separated into many parts. It now seems like forever ago that I was in New Zealand, yet I only got back from my trip two weeks ago. I then spent a week alone (which was actually just what I needed - a month with a group of people can drive you slightly mad and I was in much need of some time to myself!). And then this past week Ollie has been here in Australia and we spent Christmas together which was lovely! So on the 1st December I took the ferry to Wellington and started my journey in the north island! It's very different to the south - for a start the weather is much better. We weren't expecting much because people constantly told us that the south island is far better than the north but I don't think that was true - it was just different. There were lots of...

New Zealand South Island! - November

Image
Hi Everyone! It’s going to be a long one today…I hope this finds you all well. I’m writing this in a hostel in Wellington two weeks into the month-long trip! The first 2 weeks of the November went by very fast. Exams lasted from the 2 nd November to the 12 th so I just spent those days studying a lot! We did watch the rugby world cup as a revision break (what happened England?) in an English pub with a group of English friends and I dragged my American friend Antoine along which was a laugh. I then had four days before my flight to Christchurch where I packed and spent as much time with friends as possible before I said goodbye to them. My friend’s girlfriend flew out from England and the three of us along with my other English friend, Katie, and Antoine cooked a huge goodbye roast dinner for 13 people, complete with a Yule log as we won’t see each other at Christmas! It was a nice way to say goodbye to people – it was so sad to see people leave but I now have a long li...
